DESCRIPTION:By Amy Nichols \nThe public is invited to experience the captivating photography of Vernon and Deni Martin at their upcoming exhibit\, running from March 6 to March 31\, 2026\, at the Plateau Creative Arts Center. The show opens with the “Gallery First Friday” reception on March 6\, from 5–7 PM\, offering guests a first look at two distinct collections that celebrate the beauty of both distant landscapes and familiar surroundings. \nThe-Quairaing-at-Dawn \nScotland 2025 presents a series of photographs captured during the artists’ month-long journey through Scotland in April 2025. Visitors will discover a vibrant snapshot of the country’s architectural heritage\, breathtaking landscapes\, lively streetscapes\, and everyday activities—all seen through the eyes of two Americans exploring Scotland for the first time. This collection promises something for every interest\, inviting viewers to see Scotland from fresh perspectives.  \nPerseverance of a Butterfly \n  \nOther Occasional Miracles features their favorite images from 2025 and 2026\, ranging from the artists’ own backyard and the Cumberland Plateau to travels in Michigan. These photographs reflect the Martins’ passion for capturing the extraordinary in the ordinary\, whether it’s local wildlife\, sweeping vistas\, or moments of everyday life.  \nAbout the Artists\nVernon and Deni Martin are amateur photographers who relocated to the Crossville area in 2022. With backgrounds in Michigan and Nashville\, they bring diverse interests to their work—architectural\, historical\, documentary\, street\, landscape\, and nature photography for Vernon\, and birds\, wildlife\, and the natural world for Deni. Their styles differ\, with Deni’s intentional and thoughtful approach complementing Vernon’s instinctive and opportunistic eye. Influences include wildlife photographer Simon d’Entremont\, landscape photographers Mads Peter Iversen\, Ian Worth\, Joe Cornish\, and street photographer Vivian Mayer.  \nThe Martins believe that every photograph offers a new view of the ordinary and familiar\, giving viewers a chance to see places they may never have visited and to appreciate the familiar in new ways. Their work is a testament to the power of photography to capture moments\, evoke emotion\, and occasionally deliver miracles. They are grateful for the opportunity to share their images and stories with the community.  \nQ&A with the Artists \nWhat advice would you give to aspiring photographers? \nDeni Martin – Be patient to see what is there\, then capture the moment. \nVernon Martin – Take pictures of what you find interesting\, Take lots of pictures. At first everything\, everywhere all the time. Educate yourself about your camera and the basic rules of composition. It will make you a better photographer and better able to catch the moment when it arises. \nPersevere and you will progress. Remember that “everything is difficult until it gets easy.” Not every picture will be a winner but keep taking pictures and the miracle shots will come more often. \nGallery First Friday is March 6\, 2026 \nCelebrate creativity with us at the Gallery First Friday on March 6\, from 5 to 7 PM!
