By Amy Nichols
The Plateau Creative Arts Center is pleased to announce its March exhibition will feature the wondrous oil paintings of Kathleen (Kathy) Falk. As a valued member of the Art Guild for just over a year, Kathy is excited to share her artwork with the community.
Join Kathy and other artists at the Plateau Creative Arts Center’s Gallery First Friday reception held on March 7 from 5-7 PM. Gallery First Friday is a great opportunity to meet artists and enjoy a glass of wine or nonalcoholic beverages. The reception is free and open to the public.
Kathy Falk’s journey with oil painting began in high school art classes and continued into early adulthood. After taking a break to raise her family, she reignited her passion for painting through classes at an art supply store as well as private painting lessons. These experiences propelled her forward in her art career. Kathy’s work is heavily influenced by Impressionism, a love she discovered during visits to the National Gallery and the Chicago Art Institute. Inspired by masters like Monet,
Van Gogh, Cézanne, and Matisse, Kathy describes herself as a Realist artist, a style reflected in the fine details of her paintings.
Utilizing brushes and a palette knife, Kathy brings her vibrant interpretations of nature to life. She also shared that she once raided her husband's toolbox for a nail to apply paint on the center of a sunflower she was painting. Using the tip of the nail allowed her to record the fine details of the sunflower perfectly. Be sure to take a closer look at her sunflower painting when you come to the Arts Center in March!
When describing her creative process, Kathy emphasizes the importance of not overthinking it. She believes that change is integral to enhancing the final piece and strives to capture moments when light hits a scene or object perfectly. Her goal is for
viewers to be drawn into her paintings and feel a sense of serenity. Her art has been displayed in the Western Museum of Art and various Art Shows in Atlanta. Kathy’s advice for aspiring artists: “Stay true to yourself and never give up!”
Kathleen Falk’s captivating oil paintings will be on display in the small gallery of the Plateau Creative Arts Center March 7- April 3. The large gallery will showcase a variety of artworks and mediums created by Art Guild members. The public is invited to enjoy an inspiring display of talent and creativity.
