Art & the Guild – The benefits of art are that they can unite, heal, inspire, transform, and make us smile. The Guild provides creative respite from secular demands and means so much to all who recognize and value the importance of art in our lives and in our communities.

Choosing Support –  How you choose to support the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade (Guild) is a personal choice. You may choose to give in one or all of the ways that benefit the arts. However you choose to give, no one way is more or less important that the other, and all ways of giving will bring joy and satisfaction back to you! Thank you for your support of the arts and please, consider the following options if you are able to share a monetary gift.

Corporate Matching Gifts – Corporate matching gifts are a great way for Guild members, friends, and the public to maximize personal contributions to the Guild and increase the impact of their gifts. By taking advantage of a company’s matching gift benefit, you may be able to double or even triple the amount of a contribution.

Gifting While You Are Alive – Depending on the amount of money you give, you may be able to stretch the tax advantage over several years. This should be discussed with your CPA or tax professional. Gifts can be made of money or appreciated assets – stock would be one of the most common gifts. When it is given to the Guild, the Guild sells it and there are no capital gains to be paid. If the individual sells it and gives it to the Guild, the individual is responsible for the tax. Therefore, it is best to give the asset itself to the Guild. Again, if a large amount is to be given, check with your tax professional as there may be some IRS regulations which must be met. You will receive a tax deduction for the amount given – it is not always a dollar for dollar deduction.

Gifting Upon Death – Name the Guild as a beneficiary in your will or trust. The disadvantage to this is that to change the designation, you would have to contact your attorney and there would be costs involved. Often, gifts made in this manner are for a specific dollar amount. Also, gifts made with this method are distributed first before the rest of the estate is disbursed. People may have a change of fortune over their lifetime and this method may prove to be a disadvantage to their children or family.
The Guild could be named as a beneficiary on your IRA, annuity or life insurance policy. The advantage to this method is that you can change the name of the charity or the percentage you are giving them without incurring the cost of any attorney. You can even split your IRA into two and designate that one be for the family and the other be for any charitable giving you may wish. You can control the amount that is in your “Charitable IRA” by taking large distributions or smaller distributions from that entity and taking the remainder from the other IRA. If your IRA is an annuity, you can accomplish your desire for charitable giving and leaving a legacy for your children who are allowed to stretch the IRA over their lifetime, also tax deferred. The amount given is  a specific dollar amount.

An annuity names beneficiaries. You can name the Guild as a beneficiary and give it a specific percentage of the policy. You cannot “split” the policy into two parts. It is a contract. Trying to create two separate policies would create all sorts of unintended consequences. Changing the percentage of the gift or the name of the   charity you wish to give to can simply be done through your broker or insurance agent without any additional expense.
